Let's set up REAPER for Voice Acting - UK/EU/Oceania-friendly Session

Workshop

Description

UK/EU/Asia-friendly Session

11am BST (London) | (1pm EEST) | 6pm CST (Beijing) | 8pm AEST

While they would never claim to be an expert, Laneth's ever-growing obsession with REAPER has come full circle since they first started to really learn what it could do back in 2019; here they are guiding you through a voiceover-oriented 'out of the box' tour of the audio post processing industry's most beloved (and hated) DAW!

Having been described as the "Linux of Digital Audio Workstations", REAPER truly is customisable to the Nth degree - the only problem is that it can have a steep learning curve as a consequence, so much so that it can be incredibly overwhelming and frustrating to anyone not prepared to put in some groundwork in the beginning.

Over the course of two hours, Neth hopes to guide you through the exploration and setup of a fresh installation of the latest version of REAPER. The first half of the workshop will follow Neth as they explain the main areas of the program and then proceed to make some basic but essential adjustments (in their opinion) to make it play nicely with voice actors.

The second half will open up to a Q&A portion where attendees can ask questions about various aspects and functions of REAPER that Neth may not have specifically covered in the first half. Things like how to make a particular edit to your audio, or how to add/adjust/remove plug-ins, etc.

Note: This workshop is not designed to be a complete lesson on using REAPER, and while some processes common to many types of voiceover work may be explained, the overall goal of this workshop is to take users from knowing little or next-to-nothing about REAPER to feeling confident enough with its basic functions that they can record, clean up, and export their voiceover audio.

Notes and links to resources that Neth highly recommends will be shared during and after the session.

TheNeth - aka Laneth Sffarlenn

Laneth Sffarlenn studied audio engineering with Tony Wijs in late-2020 shortly before Closing Credits was launched, and has been working with Tony as his TA since. Having helped with the development of the Demo Engineering and Advanced Audio Engineering classes, Neth has also been providing one-on-one and small group support sessions for students that sought a more applied approach to learning REAPER than can be found with many pre-recorded courses available online.

As a practical (kinaesthetic) learner themselves, their hope is to provide an interactive learning environment where no question is unwelcome or to be considered silly. They'll readily admit if they don't know something, and guarantee that they'll be looking for an answer in their own time if not in the session itself!
